Two more of Maine public universities will have to close large budget gaps before the academic year is finished, as low enrollment creates an increasingly bleak budget picture for the University of Maine System. Both the University of Maine and the University of Maine at Farmington are still calculating the final figures but expect to have to cl adidas yeezy ose seven-figure budget gaps as the University of Maine System continues to reel from lower-than-expected enrollment this fall, according to Ryan Low, the university systems chief financial officer. The expected budget gaps in Orono and Farmington follow news last month that the universities of Maine at Augusta, Presque Isle and Fort Kent as well as the University of Southern Maine had budget gaps totaling $5 million for the current academic year. The University of Maine Systems board o adidas samba f trustees on Monday approved recommendations to close the gaps at those four campuses, which included keeping some vacant teaching positions open, digging into relief and reserve funds, and developing more targeted marketing to drive up transfer student recruitment.UMaine and UMF havent yet outlined their strategies for closing the expected gaps.At UMF, the belt-tightening would follow a round of painful cuts last academic year that saw the university lose 18 professors nearly half its faculty due to posit adidas yeezy ion eliminations and early retirements. The university system is taking in less revenue as a result of lower-than-expected enrollm Ofbk Bangor will close local recycling station as part of city s switch to new waste plant
President Donald Trump, who rattled U.S. allies at a NATO meeting last week, voiced concern in a television interview broadcast Tue yeezy shoes sday night that sending troops from the alliance to defend an aggressive Montenegro could result in World War III.Trump was asked about Montenegro, which joined NATO last year and has a population smaller than that of the District of Columbia, during a Fox News interview with host Tucker Carlson.Carlson pressed Trump on the purpose of the alliance, which was created in 1949 to protect the United States, Canada and a host of Western European nations from Soviet incursion. The organization calls for member nations to come to the aid of any ally that is attacked. Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack Carlson asked in the interview, which was recorded Monday after Trumps summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. You know, Montenegro is a tiny country with very strong people. 鈥?They are very aggressive people, they may get aggressive, and congratulations, youre in World War III. A month after Lyle and Erik Menendez were arrested for brutally slaying their parents inside their Beverly Hills home, Dr. Ann Burgess entered the Los Angeles County Jail with a stack of blank paper and a set of colored pencils.
It was April 1990, and the maelstrom around Jose and Kitty Menendez’s double murder – and the brothers’ forthcoming trial – had reached a fever pitch. News articles described the crime scene in gory, painstaking detail. Prosecutors and tabloids portrayed the brothers as greedy, calculated, cold-blooded killers.

Burgess was among the earliest women to work with the FBI and a key member of what was known as the bureau’s Behavioral Science Unit in the late ’70s.
That team has since been dubbed “Mindhunters” because they willingly delve into the darkest parts of the human psyche to better understand what motivates a murderer. What they uncover could make even the most hardened detectives blanch.
And while criminal profiling is not an exact science, it is a method investigators increasingly lean on to identify warning signs of a would-be killer.
CNN spoke to former profilers – all women like Dr. Burgess who worked with the FBI – who have pioneered and practiced ways to connect the dots between evidence and psychology to help solve and prevent crimes.
“You start very slowly,” the now 88-year-old told CNN of her approach with Menendez. “You start with, ‘How far back can you remember?’ … and gradually get up to, ‘When did you first have this idea of what you wanted to do to your parents?’”
Burgess said she spent 50 hours interviewing Menendez and, as she recounts in her latest book, she was later called as an “expert witness” to testify about how Erik and Lyle’s decision to confront their father over what they alleged was years of sexual abuse could have provoked enough fear for them to commit a double murder.
She’s since been accused of profiling Menendez as a way to excuse or justify the brothers’ crimes, but Burgess staunchly rejects that characterization.
“You’ve got to do it for prevention,” she said. “You have to learn something from this.”
That, she says, is the question that drives most criminal profilers: How can we prevent the next murder?

The indictment of former FBI Director James Comey made public on Thursday is likely to put on display, yet again, the blockbuster political discourse around the FBI investigations in 2016 that affected the presidential election.

Central to the case: Leaks to media outlets that Comey was asked about in 2017 and 2020 congressional testimony.

Comey, the long-time nemesis of Donald Trump from the early days of Trump’s first term, has been criminally charged with two felonies, both related to a lie he allegedly told Congress in 2020.
Though the attorney general and even prosecutors on the case had reservations about its strength, acting US Attorney Lindsey Halligan — appointed by the president over the weekend after a previous US attorney left due to disagreements over charging Trump’s political opponents – presented the charges to a close grand jury meeting in Alexandria, Virginia, on Thursday afternoon.
In the grand jury room, 14 of at most 23 grand jurors decided prosecutors had probable cause to indict Comey, subsequent court proceedings on Thursday revealed. Yet one charge prosecutors had wanted against Comey was rejected by the grand jury.
